Opened in 1975 in an old bait shop and rebuilt after Hurricane Frederic in 1979, the fried shrimp at this family-owned restaurant is on the state’s “100 Dishes to Eat” list. (Sea-N-Suds Restaurant & Oyster Bar/Facebook) Sea N Suds (Gulf Shores) Children’s and gluten free menus also are available. Steaks are bathed in the restaurant’s signature herb butter. The Lagniappe Seafood Platter includes Gulf greats-shrimp, oyster, grouper, and soft-shell crab. Grouper gets top billing, with preparations including Meuniere (pan sauteed), Almondine (toasted almonds and lemon butter), Pontchartrain (soft-shell crab), or the ultra-indulgent Seafood Lagniappe (topped with slices of lobster and hollandaise sauce. Offering bites from the Big Easy, this dockside restaurant dishes creole classics. Enjoy Sunday brunch by the water with egg-based favorites like Cajun Omelet with andouille sausage and crawfish tails. Other seafood, steaks, and lighter fare also are available at lunch and dinner. Oysters-fried or baked-are a signature at this decade-old eatery. Part of the family of restaurants including Villaggio Grille, YoHo Rum & Tacos, and Mile Marker 158 Dockside, Ginny Lane offers live music daily, with a dockside patio. Oysters-including farmed Alabama bivalves-come raw or grilled, while fish is served fried, blackened, or grilled. Signature appetizers include Firecracker Shrimp, and Tuna and Avocado Stack. There’s something for fish- and meat-eaters of every stripe in this upscale eatery. Several offer happy-hour discounts on select appetizers-sometimes even half-shell oysters.īut one thing they all have in common: spectacular waterfront views and the best seafood that swims nearby. Here are a few other popular coastal choices. Places like Fisher’s at Orange Beach Marina, Lulu’s and the Flora-Bama (at least the western part of this border-straddling establishment) should be enshrined in a Bama Beach Eats Hall of Fame. Some seafood specialists along the coast make just about every must-try list. That’s a good rule of thumb in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. I’m also a firm believer that, if I can see the water, my best meal will come out of that water. Maybe one serves something you’ve never tried. Maybe the noshes at another will pair well with happy hour drinks. If you’re like me, before leaving home for a vacation, you’ve researched dining options at your destination and picked out a few places. That means it’s also easier to get a table offering a waterside view at restaurants in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. And the size of the crowds at beachside amenities is just right. The water is still warm, but not too cold. The weather is still warm, but not too hot. This was our first visit to Cobalt and we will definitely go back the next time we are in Orange Beach.If you don’t have children in school, this may be the perfect time to hit Alabama’s beaches. The restaurant has ample indoor and outdoor seating, which is surrounded by a very comfortable, modern decor. ![]() When leaving, there were as many as 75-100 people waiting to be seated. We arrived around 5:00pm and were seated within 15 minutes. If you plan to dine during the popular dining times, plan to wait awhile (there is a lot of space for waiting customers). It was an excellent! We split several desserts, which were delicious (try the pecan caramel cheesecake). I had the blackened grouper over a bed of risotto, served with a cajun cream sauce. ![]() The service was terrific! Our waiter suggested different specials the restaurant was offering that night, which we took advantage of. Each chose a different dish from the menu and everyone was extremely happy with the presentation and taste of. We visited with 5 adult members of our family.
